the 2 degrees tour: Fall 2009

July 27th, 2009

2degreesC is pleased to announce David Noble’s North American speaking tour coming in Fall 2009. Together with local guests in communities in 20+ cities, David will be sharing stories and inspiration about the possibilities for transcendent citizen responses to the climate crisis.

We are looking for engagements with two target audiences: richly diverse general public audiences and young person groups (i.e. high school and university). If you are interested in (co-) hosting a school-based or community event, please contact us, and we'll work together to organize an exciting event that you won't soon forget.  For the tour event listing, which will be updated as events are confirmed and posters are available, please visit the "Speaking" section of this site.

The tour comes on the heels of a major international agreement to limit global warming to a maximum of 2 degrees C, and less than 100 days before the Copenhagen climate negotiations, where 192 countries are to thrash out a global agreement to avert catastrophic climate change. This is a historical occasion, the outcome of which will shape the course of human development forever.

Special thanks to our many partners on the project, including our official sponsors. Without their support and encouragement, the two degrees tour would be nothing more than a fabulous idea. On behalf of all who benefit from this unique tour, thank you!

About David Noble

David Noble is the founder and principal of 2degreesC, where for the last six years he has been trying his darndest to save the world from climate change!

He is REMARKABLY privileged to have visited both the Arctic and the Antarctic in the last year. In Fall 2008, he joined an incredible crew of artists, scientists, architects, designers and innovators on the Cape Farewell art/science expedition to west Greenland and had an absolutely unique and profoundly moving experience, which further fuelled his passion to inspire citizen responses to the climate crisis.

Six months later, he joined a mix of energy giants, business executives, the first man to walk (yes, WALK) to both (yes, BOTH) poles and a group of 50 young learners on the Inspire Antarctic Expedition to west Antarctica. At the bottom of the world, he discovered some simple wisdoms and an elusive beast named sustainable inspiration.

He is a four-time survivor of the international climate negotiations, an occasional writer (click here for some writings) and a frequent speaker. He trained with Al Gore and is a presenter with the Climate Project, and he has been a keynote and featured presenter to diverse audiences in 10 countries in North America, Europe and Asia. In total, he has worked in nearly 20 countries on six continents.

He has written more than a dozen articles in professional and general interest publications in the last three years, and has contributed to several national and international reports, including a UNICEF report on the human security impacts of climate change on children. He also contributed to and co-edited Stepping up to the Climate Change Challenge: Perspectives on local government leadership, policy and practice, which was freely distributed to nearly 4,000 Mayors and chief administrators in municipalities across Canada. He has consulted to a wide range of clients working to build institutional responses to climate change.

In the course of this and so much more, David has developed powerful stories that speak to our minds and reach into our hearts. Simply not to be missed! Check out these testimonials and affirmations.

Woo hoo for our those helping bring the 2 degrees tour to life!
