Our journey

Since its founding in 2003, 2degreesC has grown from a one-man shop to a a networked practice with clients, collaborators and initiatives around the world. Here are some our key developments from then to now.

February - December 2010
After the madness of the Copenhagen climate negotiations, it is time for a rest and reflection. But for a few small engagements, it is a period of relative calm. David joins the Co-operators Group Community Advisor Panel and serves as an assessor with the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation.

September - December 2009
David leads a six-week, 21-event speaking tour across Canada, and then goes straight on to Copenhagen for the UN COP15 climate negotiations. 2degreesC and partners deliver the mass dialogues 2009.

January – April 2009
The busy Fall continues into a busy Spring! Just as we finish building a digital photo archive of Canadian science activity in the International Polar Year, David and Aiden join the Inspire Antarctic Expedition 2009. Shortly after our return, we bid Sandy farewell as he pursues his new role as a stay-at-home dad.

SeptemberDecember 2008
David participates in Cape Farewell Art / Science Expedition 2008 to west Greenland. We launch the POLES APART exhibition, play a major role in organizing youth participation in the COP14 climate negotiations in Poland, and launch the mass dialogues initiative to extend the youth experience at the negotiations to online participants from around the world.

February – July 2008
Team 2degreesC grows to six people as international work and travel intensifies. Team meetings connect people on three continents and four time zones. [Thank you Skype.] Our two year partnership with Municipal World draws to a close with the publication of "Stepping up to the Climate Change Challenge: Perspectives on local-level leadership, policy and practice", which is distributed free-of-charge to 3600 Mayors and municipal administrators across Canada.

June - December 2007
David convened the first-ever international symposium on health promotion and climate change, and co-authored a resolution passed by global health promotion body committing it to a professional response to global environmental change. 2degreesC commits to a major focus on global youth empowerment on climate change. In the following months, 2degreesC plays a major role in organizing Canadian and international youth participation in the UN COP13 climate negotiations in Bali, including by convening the International Conference of Youth.

March - December 2006
David publishes an article in Municipal World magazine, launching a two-year collaboration with Municipal World that produced 23 articles and the book “Stepping up to the Climate Change Challenge”, which was co-edited by Susan Gardner and David Noble. He joins the Centre for Urban Health Initiatives at the University of Toronto as a research associate, and helps launch the African Youth Initiative on Climate Change at the UN COP12 climate negotiations in Nairobi.

April - October 2005
Building on his earlier work on emerging approaches to environmental finance, David leads a process to help establish priorities and partnerships for financing clean energy in the U.S.-Mexico border region. 2degreesC is officially born in August (mercifully ending work under the name ‘David Noble Consulting’ and ‘The Noble Group’).
